The following is excerpted from an email between Tom Page and John Tianen. Thanks, guys.

John:> I am aware of the Mt. Lemmon site near Tucson but have not
John:> visited it yet. I have been to the site in Kingman, AZ which
John:> is on a small mesa in the middle of town. It`s just off I-40.
John:> The Winslow, AZ site is also just north of I-40 at the Leupp Corner
John:> exit. Another bit of interest....the Luke-Williams site may have
John:> been known as Gila Bend AFS. I once know someone who was being sent
John:> there. I drove through Gila Bend and looked for the site to no avail.
John:> I know the names of some radar sites didn`t always match the closest
John:> town.
John:>

Tom:>I was told by a knowledgeable NCO once that the old Luke-Williams
Tom:>Range radar site was just north of the town of Ajo, AZ; that`s all the
Tom:>information I have, though. The ARSR-4 site at Ajo apparently is new,
Tom:>but I`m speculating it might be on (or near) the old Luke-Williams Range
Tom:>radar site. (The road atlas now shows the USAF range to be renamed in
Tom:>honor of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater.)

Tom:>Also, there was yet another USAF radar site in Arizona a long time ago:
Tom:>Yuma AFS, in the far southwest corner of the state (colocated with
Tom:>Vincent AFB and the Yuma Airport). In more-modern times, the USAF and
Tom:>FAA have been sharing the facility on Humbolt Mtn. (Z-247), near
Tom:>Carefree, just north of Phoenix.
