As iis evident in the images below, it is just a matter of time before the former Dauphin Island AFS family-housing area is consumed by the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The shoreline has been eroding steadily northward ever since the site was built. Compare the Topo Map, the USGS image from `TerraServer,` and the most-recent aerial images from `MapQuest` and `Google Earth.` Note the disappearing beach. In fact, the GATR site, which was just west of the family-housing area, has already dissappeared.
